March 2010 at Winterslow pre-school
The February at pre-school was extremely exciting. Most memorable of all was our trip up to the primary school to watch their play ‘On the way to Grandma’s house.’ The performance was just perfect, with so many of our favourite characters ; the three bears, Goldilocks, Aurora, Cinderella, ugly sisters, the big bad wolf and lots more. It was fantastic seeing our friends performing and how well they had settled in to ‘big school.’ It was also a perfect opportunity for our older children to visit their next school again, so thanks to Mrs Greenaway for inviting us.
Still continuing with our traditional tales theme, we made some fabulous Rapunzel towers in February, complete with flowing locks. We then moved on to Chinese New Year celebrations, making our own dragon out of recycled packaging and boxes. We paraded him around to dramatic music enhanced by our own rowdy bell ringing, then ate Chinese prawn crackers to restore our energy.
We couldn’t let February pass without acknowledging St Valentine’s Day, so we made heart-shaped biscuits with pink and sparkly icing. Delicious !
One of our new teachers is a talented linguist, so we’ve been making the most of her skills and having some French and Spanish lessons. A delightful French bee has been telling us all about the country he lives in (and giving us lots of hugs and kisses, which is essential if you’re a glove puppet, regardless of your country of origin !)
By the time you read this, we will all be eagerly looking for signs of Spring’s arrival. No group anticipates the clocks going forward more than the pre-schoolers’ parents. Our fervent hope is that our little ones will wake-up an hour later, especially at the weekend ! Meanwhile, we have a week’s holiday for half term so that our teachers can have a well-earned rest.
Don’t forget to buy your barn dance tickets, they are on sale now at £12 each. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year (we hope !) and it’s great fun. We have a new band this year, ‘Pogles Wood’ who come highly recommended. Please support us, it’s on March 20^th at 7.30 PM. Buy a raffle ticket if you can’t join us. Tickets are available at the village shop.
Please call Tanya on 862117 if you are thinking of joining us. She will be happy to show you around with ‘no obligation.’ We have a waiting list on most days.
We are open from 9.15 to 1 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 9.15 to midday on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Please contact Tanya if you are interested in joining us, on 01980 862 117.
