November 2008 - (Parish Mag. December Edit)

Hello everyone!

Just been reflecting on yesterday's Christmas Fair event - It was lovely to meet up with some familiar faces and one of the wonderful things for me, was seeing previous pre-school members and commenting on how much they have grown. Yes, as I stood by a few, there wasn't much difference in our heights!! What was also lovely, was meeting new acquaintances and this led me to remember a conversation I had with one of pre-school's parents about moving into the village.

It is amazing how many strong friendships have been formed over the years - some starting from when parents enrolled their children into pre-school and continuing, when their children moved on to 'big school'!! I remember myself, being new to the village, about twelve years ago, nervously taking the first step to leave my son at
Winterslow Pre-school - I wasn't so much nervous about leaving Lewis, I knew he would have a great time and I was only five minutes away - no, it was actually me meeting new people. 'What were they like?' 'Will they talk to me?' 'Will I have anything in common, being a Townie?' (moved from Basingstoke) Loads of questions and concerns were
buzzing around.

Well, I needn't had feared, I too, have made some great friendships and this continues through constantly meeting new parents and of course their children as they join Winterslow Pre-school. It is a brilliant icebreaker. We have a wonderful, dedicated and very friendly group of parents who support our pre-school. It is fantastic to not only see
the children's smiling faces each morning but those of their parents and carers as well!!

After last year's very successful fundraising event, we are holding another Trike Ride on the afternoon of Sunday, 7 December 2008 in the Village Hall. This is open to all toddlers and pre-school age children. Your child does not have to be a member of Winterslow Pre-school and Toddler group to attend - more the merrier!! (look out for more
details - including sponsor forms - soon). So, a good opportunity to possibly strike up some new friendships!!! Come along, it will be great to meet you.

Well, it's also that time of year again, to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas. Even though, we are all aware of the world's financial situation at the moment - Don't forget, a good word, an ear to listen with and some sound advice and support, do not cost a penny!!

Wishing you all a joyous time,

Lesley Sandell,

Winterslow Pre-school Supervisor
